I had eight years in Girl Scouts (1st to 8th grade) and two years as the vice president and president of my Outdoor Adventure Club in college nearly 20 years ago. I’m the director of an animal shelter I founded in 2003 where I’ve overseen youth volunteers every year. I hold four college degrees (AA in Communication Arts, Bachelors in General Studies, Bachelors in Humane Leadership, and Masters in Public Relations). That is all I had to go on when I nervously agreed to step up as a den leader for my son’s Cub Scout pack last year (2016). There was no manual handed over, no outline to follow, so here I am, making it up as I go along.
