Cubmaster Resource: Parent Information Station
After making it through my first Pack meeting as Cubmaster last month, I felt that it’s time I start introducing a little more organization and accountability for our parents. One of my biggest peeves is the same people are doing the work for our Cubs all the time. Now, there is an adage that in any organization, 20% of the people do 80% of the work, but I see some that don’t even do 1%. So I decided to create something that may be slightly passive aggressive but gets the message out to our parents that they need to help with this program, too.
Tonight, I will debut our new Parent Information Station at our Blue and Gold. It will sit on it’s own table with the information on the board and handouts and sign up sheets on the table below it.
What’s included on the board:
-
- Flyers for district/council events – I glued sheet protectors so I can change these out each month
- Parent volunteer needs – our leaders need to not be doing everything, and I included a statement that if parents don’t sign up, programming may be changed to accommodate what leaders can feasibly manage – also in a sheet protector
- Special announcements for the month – also in a sheet protector
- An ongoing events calendar – also in a sheet protector
- Information on links to our events calendar online as well as our Remind.com signup for alerts.
For the parent signups, I included a statement that explains why we need parents other than leaders to also help.
During our “announcements” portion of our program tonight, I’m going to hold a Cubmaster’s quiz to see how many parents actually stopped by it and paid attention. I have four gift certificates for dolphin tours (my family’s business) to give out; I’m hoping that I will have four parents that stopped to read.
