Exchange Scouting: The First Week (and then some)
We tried to give Adrian ample warning that we are an active and involved family. In his first week, he got to see first hand just how much. His first night he learned how to syringe feed two week old kittens (a result of your host mom being the director of an animal shelter). Two days later, he spent five hours handing out school supplies for a community event. The next weekend, he got to spend over seven hours helping a Venturing Crew member work her Summit project at my animal shelter.
He’s also had some fun, attending a community picnic with a bounce house and spending the day at our local water park before school started back on August 4. We’ve learned that he loves pulled pork bbq and Chick-Fil-A along with various cakes and cheesecakes. He introduced us to one of his favorite dishes from home and frequently cooks bacon and fried eggs for a late night snack.
Adrian is now officially registered as a member of our troop which will start back to meetings in September. In the meantime, we submitted a request for advancement determination board of review under the Guide to Advancement to our district. Depending upon how that goes, I’ll outline the process and what we did in a later post.
